Milestone Infrastructure, part of M Group Services’ Transport Division is inspiring young people to bring their imagination to life by printing a student’s winning design on a number of Peterborough’s highways maintenance vehicles.

Local environment charity PECT champions eco education in local schools by educating and offering workshops to students. Milestone Infrastructure partnered with Aggregate Industries to sponsor PECT’s annual Eco Awards and challenged children across the city to design vehicle livery based on Milestone’s environmental theme ‘Let’s Go Zero’. The winner’s design would be mounted on different types of highways vehicles operating across the Peterborough Council Highways network.

Aprameya Ghosh, 10-year-old student from St Augustine’s Church of England Junior School, won first prize with his entry ‘Start the Change’.

To show Aprameya and the children from St Augustine’s the winning design, representatives from Milestone Infrastructure, Aggregate Industries and PECT visited the school with a Witherly tipper truck mounted with Aprameya’s design.

Gary Williams, Operations Manager on Milestone Infrastructure’s Peterborough contract, said: “It’s great to see how we have supported PECT’s Eco Awards.

“Being invited to St Augustine’s to see the winning design was a privilege. It’s fantastic to see that students are so aware of the environment and sustainability. The competition was a brilliant way to showcase their creativity.”

Aprameya Ghosh, winner of the competition, said: “My family are amazed and so am I. I will be looking out for my design on the side of vehicles around Peterborough.”

Heidi Latronico-Ferris, Environmental Education Lead at PECT, said: “It was such a unique opportunity for the students and something I am sure Aprameya will remember for a long time.

"This initiative is a great way to highlight the importance of sustainability to children. Everyone involved has done an amazing job to make this happen.”

Colin Witham, Framework Manager for Aggregate Industries’ Surfacing Solutions Division, said: “As a company, sustainability and decarbonising the construction industry are huge priorities for us. We thought it would be an amazing way to engage with young people and get them thinking about the environment.”

At M Group Services we are committed to considering the environment and empowering our people and others to act in a sustainable way. Hopefully, Aprameya’s design will encourage even more people to be more environmentally friendly.
