Health and Safety is our number one priority at Milestone Infrastructure and we are constantly looking for ways to further improve our procedures.

On World Day for Safety and Health at Work, we are pleased to announce we have recently won two awards for our commitment to safe working and reducing the risk of accidents.

Milestone has won the Behavioural Safety Award and the Health and Safety Innovation Award in the Road Surface Treatments Association’s (RSTA) Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Awards. The awards recognise and reward improved SHE performance across all aspects of the roads surface treatments industry.

The Behavioural Safety Award recognises the ‘Creating Safety’ initiative on Milestone’s Oxfordshire Highways contract, always following procedures properly and in the safest possible way to prevent any accidents.

An innovative app, on which workers can reports any hazards or incidents at work, secured the Health and Safety Innovation Award. The app was created to make work at Milestone Infrastructure as safe as possible, protecting our people. It also helps to encourage innovative ideas going forward.

The app is user-friendly, using simple drop-down menus and data fields for people to provide details about their innovative ideas and make their safety reports. The response to it has been incredible, with a number of initiatives being implemented from ideas sent in.

These ideas range from the simple use of insect repellent bands worn by operatives through to a £20,000 hydraulically operated post puller, funded by the client, for Milestone Infrastructure’s specialist safety fence teams.

Richard Lovewell, Business Director at Milestone Infrastructure, said: “It has been a real team effort to improve our health and safety performance through increased engagement and a focus on the positive and proactive ways to manage health and safety and deliver continual improvement.”

Congratulations to everyone involved in the achievement of both awards and to those involved in creating an award-winning app that is helping to make Milestone Infrastructure as safe as possible.

World Day for Safety and Health at Work is an annual awareness day to promote health and safety in the workplace, observed by International Labour Organisation (ILO) since 2003.
