Milestone Infrastructure recently sponsored the Peterborough Environment City Trust (PECT) Eco-Awards which celebrates eco-education in schools.
Students from several participating primary and secondary schools took part in the event and presented a wide range of environmental projects from promoting wildlife, reducing waste and creating healthy lifestyles.
Milestone Infrastructure also presented a special award to the Thomas Deacon Academy which had shown tremendous dedication and leadership in promoting zero waste.
After the main event, Milestone Infrastructure and Aggregate Industries asked children from local primary schools to design a logo based on the theme ‘Let’s Go Zero’. The winning drawing will be mounted on city vehicles. The competition attracted over 100 entries from the local community.
Keith McWilliams, Contracts Manager from Milestone Infrastructure said: “Supporting PECT with the Eco Awards again this year has been an absolute pleasure. All students on the day were very engaging and knowledgeable, demonstrating a real commitment to creating more environmentally aware habits. Congratulations to all involved in organising and attending the event and taking part in the ‘Let’s Go Zero’ competition; having seen all the entries it was a challenge to pick just one winner. Keep up all the hard work!’
Apameya Ghosh from St Augustine’s C of E Junior School took first prize with their entry of what they felt reflected this phrase, promoting a reduction of carbon footprint in tackling climate change. The runner-up was Saara from Northborough Primary school.
The children were presented with their certificates and goody bags in an award ceremony at their school assembly.
Cllr Marco Cereste, Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Planning, Housing and Transport at Peterborough City Council said: “I am delighted that our partner has been involved with a competition to celebrate the hard work that local children have been doing to positively impact our environment.”
