Recently, Milestone Infrastructure and its supply chain came together to transform a charity riding school in Oxfordshire.
The Milestone team, alongside its supply chain, worked to revamp the car park and driveway at the Abingdon Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) school, which had needed repair for many years.
The car park was covered in potholes and prone to becoming muddy in wet conditions, which made it difficult for centre users and volunteers to access and was a particular hazard for wheelchair users.
In Milestone’s commitment to give back to the communities in which it works, the team worked closely with a team of its subcontractors, coordinated by Paul Humphreys of Aggregate Industries (AI), to transform the space.
Supply chain volunteers included Road Planing Supplies, who supplied 76 tonnes of planings, Drayton Construction, who put in new gateposts, alongside work by Jet Plant, Wilson and Scott and Shaun Burton Transport.
Speaking on the transformation, Ann Barlow, Chair of Abingdon RDA, said: “In our wildest dreams, we never thought that we would ever have a pothole free drive and car park, let alone a tarmac one.
“Our volunteers, riders, parents and all those many people who visit our yard on a daily basis just couldn’t believe their eyes when they first saw the transformation.”
Each week, Abingdon RDA provides riding therapy to over 90 adults and children. These riders have diverse disabilities, including cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, spina bifida, and autism.
RDA offers them independence and the opportunity to develop new skills and confidence, alongside the mental health benefits of engaging with the horses and ponies, and the chance to participate in social activities and holidays.
Milestone’s focus on social value is an essential element of our environmental, social and governance (ESG) commitments. This transformation will allow visitors to Abingdon RDA to continue to use the site for years to come.
