We’re proud to announce that we’ve been shortlisted in three categories at the Oxfordshire Apprenticeship Awards.

The Awards celebrate apprentices, employers, training providers and career leads across Oxfordshire. We’re proud that two of our amazing apprentices, Josh Jones and Thomas Renault, have been shortlisted, and Milestone itself has been shortlisted in the Apprentice Employer of the Year category.

Josh Jones, who not only successfully completed his Highways Maintenance Skilled Operative Apprenticeship, but also achieved his Maths and English GCSEs as part of the programme, has been shortlisted for the Intermediate Apprentice of the Year Award. Since completing his apprenticeship, Josh was promoted to a permanent Highways Operative role within our Oxfordshire contract.

Josh has successfully undertaken a wide range of additional training above and beyond the requirements of his role. He also volunteered to be trained to join the very demanding ‘out of hours’ team. This requires him to be on call 24/7 one week in every month to deal with highway emergencies such as road closures, fallen trees, floods and potholes. Josh has shown an ability to take ownership of these situations, liaise with the police and act independently to ensure safety of others.

Thomas Renault, has revolutionised data performance management since he joined our Oxfordshire contract 4.5 years ago. He has been shortlisted for the Degree Apprentice of the Year Award.

Tom has developed a wide range of digital solutions and data management platforms, including the Oxfordshire Highways Carbon Reduction Dashboard, which allows us to record and report on carbon savings, as well as an innovative data capture solution for our Dragon Patcher defect repair machine. Tom is now recognised within our Oxfordshire Contract as a ‘go-to’ person for digital solutions and performance data.

Finally, Milestone is thrilled to have been shortlisted for the Apprentice Employer of the Year Award in recognition of our support to early careers staff and apprentices.

Milestone is also very proud to be sponsor of this year’s Special Recognition Award which celebrates apprentices who have overcome significant challenges or barriers to learning or work.

Taking place Thursday 16 May, we wish everyone attending the very best of luck.
