Since Milestone Infrastructure became part of M Group Services a year ago, it has cemented its first-class reputation for strong and innovative service delivery across a longstanding client base.

Award-winning Milestone was launched in May 2021, when M Group Services, a leading provider of services to essential infrastructure in the UK, acquired Skanska UK’s Infrastructure Services operation.

In the last 12 months, Milestone has enhanced the M Group Services’ Transport Division with considerable additional resource, experience and expertise.

Milestone has secured contract extensions with six existing clients, achieved six new tendered wins, and received multiple awards for its commitment to health and safety and sustainability.  Operating as a stand-alone business delivering highways maintenance, street lighting and projects, Milestone is responsible for looking after 24,000 miles of roads, 280,000 lighting assets and 20,000 miles of footways. It has existing, long-term relationships with local authority clients including Devon, Somerset, North Somerset, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire, Surrey, Redbridge, Croydon, Lewisham, Peterborough and Cambridgeshire.

Milestone has a strong focus on sustainability and minimising the impact of its works for local communities. It was recently shortlisted for two environmental awards in the Carbon Reduction Champion and Low Carbon Projects of the Year categories of the Construction News Awards.

The business is taking ambitious steps to deliver its target of net-zero carbon by 2040. Its Environment Strategy 2025 and Carbon Reduction Plan detail how the business plans to achieve this important sustainability goal.

Other innovative low-carbon practises introduced in the last year include the use of low-temperature asphalt, cement-free kerbing and the rollout of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil diesels (HVO) for its vehicle fleet.

Milestone’s commitment to health and safety is also award-winning, recognised by the Road Surface Treatments Association (RSTA) in their annual Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) awards. The awards recognise and reward SHE performance across all aspects of the roads surface treatments industry.

The importance of leaving a positive, lasting legacy in the local communities in which Milestone is working has been underlined in the last year with a number of volunteering projects, including Community Impact Bucks, gardening and befriending service in Buckinghamshire and Horsell Common conservation work.

Milestone is committed to building a resilient, sustainable and local workforce. It offers a range of careers within the highways industry, from apprentices, traineeships to graduate positions to attract, develop and retain the next generation of highly skilled, forward-thinking, customer-focused and technically competent people.

Adrian Cooke, Managing Director, said: “Our strategic focus is to deliver safer, greener highways and our success in the last year celebrates the hard work of our talented people who proactively use their expertise to implement cutting-edge technologies and sustainable processes for our clients.

“Through our highly skilled, forward-thinking, customer-focused and technically competent people we are continually developing the scope of our core capabilities. This complements the strong client relationships we have established over many years across the highways sector. With the support of the Group, we have been successful in identifying new opportunities to expand our presence, cement our market leading reputation and achieving our vision to be the first choice for improving and maintaining highway infrastructure in the UK.”
